Car Bomb Targets Checkpoint North Of Baghdad

A car bomb hit a checkpoint north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, killing thirteen and wounding at least 32 others.

The explosion targeted a security checkpoint on the main Baghdad-Diyala highway near Husseiniya.

He added that emergency services arrived at the scene to survey the damage and transfer the injured to local hospitals.

Iraqi officials warned of possible retaliatory attacks by the Islamic State (ISIS) after the group’s defeat in Fallujah last month. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi urged citizens across the country to be vigilant and help security agencies prevent further violence against civilians.

A truck bomb explosion in Baghdad’s Karrada district earlier this month killed nearly 300 people and wounded just as many in the worst suicide attack in Iraqi history.
