Iraqi Army Releases Map Showing Latest Developments Against Isis In Mosul

The Iraqi War Media Cell released on Saturday (May 6) a map showing the latest advances made against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Mosul since the campaign to recapture the city started.

The map shows the areas that remain under ISIS control in the western side of the city as well as the areas that have been secured by Iraqi forces.

ISIS-held areas are surrounded by a line painted in red. The red line and area also denotes where clashes are currently taking place.

ISIS militants captured Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, when they swept across the country's north in the summer of 2014. Iraqi forces have gradually clawed back territory since then, and launched a massive operation to retake Mosul in October last year.

With the battle entering the densely populated areas of western Mosul, civilian casualties are becoming more at risk. The United Nations says several hundred civilians have been killed during the offensive, and residents say ISIS militants are using them as human shields.
