Two Blasts Kill At Least 29 In Karbala, Babil
At least 29 people were killed on Friday (June 9) following two blasts in Iraq’s cities of Babil and Karbala, security and medical sources said.
Sources said a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of a garage in Karbala, killing nine people and wounding 16.
Three women and two children were among those killed in the attack, according to medical sources.
“The suicide bomber blew himself up before entering the garage,”Furat Operations Command said.
Sources added another blast hit Musayb Market in northern Babil, killing 20 people and wounding 21 others.
The security situation in Baghdad has been deteriorating as U.S.-backed Iraqi forces are currently fighting to push the Islamic State (ISIS) from western Mosul, the militants’ last major stronghold in the country, but are facing fierce resistance.
Conflict in Iraq during the month of May caused the deaths of 345 civilians and injured another 446, the United Nations reported on June 1.
Casualty figures in the country, which the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) recorded, showed an overwhelming number of Iraqis killed in May were civilians, despite ongoing military operations against ISIS.
