Peshmerga Forces Kill 130 Isis Militants over Last Three Days
The General Command of Peshmerga Forces announced on Tuesday (August 29) that the Islamic State (ISIS) has been defeated in Tal Afar and the Ayazyah area and the militants are trying to escape to Syria.
Peshmerga forces have killed 130 ISIS members while they were attempting to escape from Tal Afar to the Syrian border, the General Command said.
Kurdish forces are prepared to fight against ISIS in the area at any moment and 130 militants were killed over the last three days, according to a statement from General Command. The statement added they will search for ISIS militants in the area.
Shia militia, the Iraqi army, other army units and Federal Police have Tal Afar surrounded. Peshmerga forces are north of the city.
The town of Tal Afar is around 77 kilometers (47 miles) west of Mosul. While the liberation of Mosul deals a huge blow to the militants, the group still controls urban Hawija and some villages around Tal Afar.
Tal Afar's Shia community fled after ISIS swept through the region two years ago, declaring from Mosul a "caliphate" that also spanned parts of Syria.
