Earthquake Hits Parts Of Kurdistan Region
An earthquake hit parts of the Kurdistan Region on Wednesday morning (December 6).
The initial shock of the 4.9 magnitude quake could be felt in Sulaimani and Halabja, as well as the bordering areas between Iran and the region at about 08:53 a.m., at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Initial reports say that the earthquake has caused no damages.
The Kurdistan Region's Directorate of Meteorology and Seismology said last week that more than 500 earthquakes had hit the Kurdistan Region since a strong 7.3 magnitude earthquake on November 12.
According to the U.N. and KRG, that earthquake caused nine fatalities and over 550 people were injured in Iraq.
The quake also struck Iran, killing 483 people and injuring more than 12,000 people as well as leaving thousands homeless.
